Sharing your iPhone, iPad, or Mac passcode or password should be reserved for people you trust as much as you’d trust with your bank account or medical decisions—typically close family members or a long-term partner.
If those trusted individuals use your devices frequently, consider simplifying their access by setting them up with biometric authentication. This avoids the need to share your passcode directly and keeps your device more secure overall.
Here’s how:
- Touch ID supports up to five fingerprints so you can add theirs alongside your own.
- Face ID allows for a secondary face, which is ideal for a partner or household member.
To set this up:
- On iPhone or iPad: Go to Settings > Face ID (or Touch ID) & Passcode
- On Mac: Open System Settings > Touch ID & Password
Biometrics provides a secure, convenient way to share access without compromising security.
